TP-Link TD-W9980

TP-LINK's TD-W9980 N600 Dual Band Gigabit VDSL2/ADSL2+ Modem Router comes with the latest ITU-T G.993.2 VDSL2 standard, providing up to 100Mbps speed downstream and upstream, and backward compatibility with ADSL. With 300Mbps wireless speed over the crystal clear 5GHz band and 300Mbps over the 2.4GHz band, the TD-W9980 is the superior choice for users in search of seamless HD video streaming, online gaming and other bandwidth-intensive tasks. Its all gigabit ports allow users to access high-speed internet connections and share them wirelessly at blazing 300Mbps wireless speeds or by using one of its 4 gigabit LAN ports. With 2 multifunctional USB ports, users can share printers, files and media across the local network or the internet. What's more, this device allows for two different connection types: VDSL/ADSL, or Ethernet WAN(UFB), giving users the flexibility to access the Internet whichever method is most convenient.
1. Attach antennas. Screw two antennas into place to ensure your router will have range throughout your location.
2. Plug router into a power source.
3. You should have dedicated VDSL2 jack-point installed by Chorus, plug phone(DSL) cable from wall jack-point to VDSL port of TD-W9980.
4. Connect your PC to the router. Connect your PC or network switch to LAN1-LAN4 port.
5. Go to the router’s access page in your browser. Open your browser and type http://192.168.1.1 into the address bar
Then, you can see the login page. The default username and password is admin.
**Do not mix up the user name and password with your ADSL account user name and password which are needed for PPP connections.
6. Start setup wizard. After successfully log in, you will see the Login screen. Click Quick Setup menu to access Quick Setup Wizard and then click Next.
Select your Region and Time Zone from the drop-down list, then click Next.
The modem router supports two modes: xDSL Modem Router Mode and Wireless Router Mode. Choose xDSL Modem Router Mode and then click Next.
Select ISP from ISP List. Econofibre is not listed in here, so, please select others click Next.
Select type of DSL. Choose VDSL from L2 Interface Type, then, below menus will be changed. Tick Enable Vlan ID. And put 10 into VID. Click Next.
Select Connection Type. Econofibre VDSL2 uses PPPoE (PPP over Ethernet). And then click Next.
Enter the fields for PPP Authentication.
- Username : Put your username for PPPoE authentication. (e.g., johnkey58)
- Password : Put the password for your username
- Confirm password : Type the password one more time
Click Next.
7. Wireless Configuration. TP-Link TD-W9980 VDSL2 router support two different frequency bands, 2.4GHz and 5GHz. Start up with 2.4GHz first.
2.4GHz WIFI Configuration
- Wireless Network Name : The name you can see among available wireless networks.
- Channel : Leave it as default, Auto.
- Security : Select WPA2-PSK/WPA2-PSK recommended.
- Password : Put the password which will be used for your WIFI authentication. It should be better to set this easy to remember and hard to guess. Keep it safe once it’s done.
Click Next to continue.
5GHz WIFI Configuration
- Wireless Network Name : The name you can see among available wireless networks.
- Channel : Leave it as default, Auto
- Security : Select WPA2-PSK/WPA2-PSK recommended
- Password : Put the password which will be used for your WIFI authentication. It should be better to set this easy to remember and hard to guess. Keep it safe once it’s done.
Click Next to continue
8. Summary. You will see the Summary screen below, click Save to make your settings take effect.
Once all settings are successfully saved, you can see below screen. Click Finish to complete.
9. Connect WIFI. Once above configurations are done, next is to check the wireless connection. Go to your PC, search SSID you set at step 7 and step 8 from the available WIFI networks.
Put WIFI password you configured at step 7 and step 8 into popup window.
10. Congratulations. You should now have a fully functioning and secure TP-Link TD-W9980 VDSL2 router.
